Laura I. Furlong is a Miguel Servet Researcher at of the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute (IMIM), Associate Professor at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and Head of the Integrative Biomedical Informatics Group of the Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics, GRIB (IMIM-UPF) at Barcelona (Spain). She has a PhD in Biology from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina and a Msc in Bioinformatics by University Pompeu Fabra. She has a broad expertise covering molecular biology, computational systems biology and text mining. Her current research is focused in developing bioinformatic approaches to unravel the mechanisms underlying human diseases and to understand why drugs produce undesired effects. She has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles, and act as reviewer for the journals Bioinformatics, BMC Bioinformatics, BMC Systems Biology, and PLOS journals. She is Member of the Scientific Committee of the MARBiobanc, Parc de Salut Mar. She has participated in several FP7 projects (@neurist, EU-ADR) and is currently involved in the IMI (Innovative Medicines Initiative) projects transQST, eTOX, EMIF, iPiE and the H2020 projects MedBioinformatics and Elixir-Excelerate.
