Graduate/Master student position at the Evolutionay Genomics Lab

Interested in comparative transcriptomics and evolution?

We are seeking a graduate or Master student to join our research group in Evolutionary Genomics at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB).  Our group is part of the Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics (Universitat Pompeu Fabra- IMIM, Barcelona, Spain).

What we do:

We strive to understand the molecular basis of evolutionary innovation, focusing on the origin of new genes and the modulation of gene expression. Our studies typically combine comparative genomics, analysis of large-scale RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) data and measurements of natural selection signatures. We also use ribosome profiling data (Ribo-Seq) to learn about the set of translated products in the cell and to quantify differential expression at the level of actively translated mRNAs.

See our full list of publications at evolutionarygenomics.imim.es.

What we expect:

The candidate will work on the computational analysis of RNA-Seq and Ribo-Seq data. She/he should have a solid background in molecular biology and genetics and be motivated to explore new research avenues. The student should have a basic knowledge of R and a programming language such as Python or Perl. The post can be used to perform a Master project or as a possible start of a PhD project.

What we offer:

The candidate will join a highly stimulating research environament at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park. We work closely with other computional genomics groups and collaborate with several wet lab groups.

We offer a one year contract, starting between January and March 2018, which may be extended until the end of 2019. Gross salary will be in the range 18,000-22,000 euros depending on experience.
