II Edition of the master in Bioinformatics for Health Sciences

We are pleased to present the second edition of the international master´s degree Bioinformatics for Health Sciences, promoted by the Research Unit on Biomedical Informatics (IMIM-UPF-PRBB) and the Unitat de Modelització Molecular i Bioinformàtica (UB-PCB).

The general goal of this international master’s degree is to produce graduates with a high degree of specialization in the field of Bioinformatics, but with a clear determination to cope with real problems in the field of biomedicine. English is the working language in the master.

MSc Bioinformatics for Health Sciences is adressed to graduates from health and life sciences, from exact and computer sciences, from engineering and from other
experimental sciences such as chemistry and physics.

The MSc Bioinformatics for Health Sciences will be put on annually and will last for two academic years. The first year is residential and during the second year the student perform his/her research project in some European Lab. The two academic years may be combined with another part-time job, so the degree is designed to also take students from companies, e.g., in the biotechnological sector.

The 2ond edition of this master’s degree is organised by the Continuing Education Institut (IDEC) and the Department of Experimental Sciences and Health (CEXS) of the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and the University of Barcelona (UB). The degree also has the support of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) and the Barcelona Science Park (PCB).

The general director of the master´s degree will be Dr. Ferran Sanz, professor of the CEXS Department at UPF and coordinator of GRIB (IMIM-UPF) with the co-direction of Dr. Modesto Orozco, professor of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department at UB and director of the UMMB/PCB. The head of the group of Genome Bioinformatics at the GRIB, Dr Roderic Guigó, will also be a member of the director´s team, while the daily coordination of the academic activities programmed will be assumed by Jordi Villà-Freixa, Ramón y Cajal researcher (UPF) at GRIB.
