Nils Drechsel, member of the Computational Biochemistry and Biophysics Laboratory, won one of the two poster awards for the best poster at the VPH conference 2010 in Brussels which took place early October. The poster with the title "Implementation of a Multiscale Model for Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Protein Folding and Aggregation" compromises the recent advancements in multiscale molecular dynamics, as well as developments regarding the molecular simulator ADUN.

The Integrative Biomedical group of GRIB (IMIM/ UPF) led by Ferran Sanz has published at the journal Bioinformatics an article that shows the DisGeNET, a new plugin for Cytoscape to query and analyze a network representation of human gene-disease databases. Ismael Zamora, member of the computer-assisted drug design laboratory of GRIB (IMIM/ UPF) has been granted with the 2010 Hansch Award given by the prestigious Cheminformatics and QSAR Society. This is the second time that this award is given to a member of our Programme because Jordi Mestres, head of Chemogenomics laboratory of GRIB was awarded with it in 2006.

We are pleased to announce the NEW Bioinformatics training courseICG10 Integrative Cancer Genomicsorganized by Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (Oeiras, Portugal) with Nuria Lopez-Bigas and Gunes Gundem (Head and Predoctoral student respectively of Biomedical Genomics Laboratory of GRIB - UPF/ IMIM) as invited professors. A networking activity in parallel with the Second Barcelona School on Biomedical Informatics (BSBMI’10)
The second VPH NoE study group will be held in Barcelona in October 4th - 8th 2010. The event will be carried out in conjunction with the second Barcelona School of Biomedical Informatics (BSBMI’10). The event, hosted by the IMIM – Institut de Recerca Hospital del Mar (IMIM), the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), will take place in the outstanding premises of the PRBB, located next to the beachfront in Barcelona.

La jornada tendrá lugar el próximo 8 de julio en el Auditorio del PRBB (Barcelona). Se presentará el Informe puesto en marcha hace unos meses por Farmaindustria para analizar el impacto de la crisis económica mundial en la financiación de las empresas españolas de reciente creación que desarrollan su actividad en el área de la biotecnología aplicada a la salud humana. También se presentará la visión que las compañías farmacéuticas y las bioempresas tienen sobre la cooperación entre ellas. La inscripción debe hacer on line en www.medicamentos-innovadores.org.
