Discussion on the status of the annotations in different biology databases (GO,Uniprot,Kegg,Pathways,Reactome)

A critical issue for a bioinformatician is the quality of the data he uses for his work, usually extracted from public scientific databases like the ones cited in the title of this talk. However, it is not clear how much well these databases are annotated, which percentage of errors we should expect when we extract data from them, and more important, it is not trivial to know that there are multiple ways to interpret the data stored.

In this talk we will describe the work done to annotate the pathway for N-glycosylation in the reactome database. We will present the procedure we followed, and all the errors or mis-annotation we found in other databases. The idea behind this talk is to promote discussion and change of opinion/personal experience over the state of the most commonly used databases.

Speaker: Giovanni Dall'Olio, Department of Biologia Evolutiva at CEXS-UPF
